Chelsea
Nickerson Foundation

The brand identity and website I created for the Chelsea Nickerson Memorial Foundation was an incredibly rewarding opportunity. When Rich and Jan Nickerson, the agency’s founders, asked me to build their organization’s first website, I jumped at the chance and offered to do the project pro bono. Before any web planning could begin, I recognized that their logo had to be modernized to suite today’s website standards and audience expectations. I collaborated with an illustrator to re-design their original dragonfly motif–an image that reminded Jan and Rich of their late daughter, Chelsea Nickerson, who passed away from Cystic Fibrosis in 2013. I built the logo and other web assets around that dragon fly because it carried heartfelt emotion for Rich and Jan and felt true to the cause.

The constraints of this project were Rich and Jan’s preference to use only personal photos of family, friends, and their daughter Chelsea. The site also had to be simply designed and easy to navigate in order for Rich and Jan to be able to update and manage the site on their own with ease. The lack of bells and whistles serves its main objectives to inform the public and collect donations.
